There are several metacode formats being used for publications.
Dow Jones has their "Composite Feed Specification" which includes
index pointers to headline, text body, subject/catagory codes, and
other attribution related information.
ANPA format includes "slug lines", attribution and text headers for
headlines and story content.
Clarinet uses SMTP/NNTP format with limited MIME extensions.
There are DowVision alliance developers who provide formatters for Lotus Notes.
There are several WAIS sources that publish MIME and Postscript formats.
Does someone have a reference to SGML? IBM has a proprietary GML format,
is this the same or similar?
Most publishers send the content in streight text form, identifiying the
relevant segments of the article. The presentation software can then
format the display with proper Logos (keyed to attribution), Headline Fonts,
and text layouts.
