Journalism is communication and art.

Journalism is, among other things, storytelling and uses many, sometimes 
too many, literary devices. 
My preferred definition of news is "information made interesting." One 
way to make information interesting is through the use of literary 
devices. The challenge to journalists is to attract and keep the reader's 
interest without undermining credibility through fabricated content or 
manipulated organization of content. 
Alhough print journalists in the past have criticized their broadcasting 
colleagues for turning news into theater, the print journalists have, in 
some cases, felt obliged to turn news into short stories. 
Journalism is and has been communication, art, science, philosophy, 
religion, craft, and recreation to its practitioners. Those are its 
strengths and its weaknesses.
