I use Excel extensively for tables here at TheStreet, but my biggest gripe
was Excel's inability to export charts by themselves. Then I found the
Power Utility Pack 97, which exports charts to GIF, JPEG (why?), and PNG.
It has a bunch of other stuff, but the $50 was worth it for just that.

As for exporting tables, 97 and, with plugin, 95 export tables. However,
they usually do so with LOTS of extra, unnecessary code. If you are willing
to put up with that -- or with doing some search/replace to strip out the
EXCEL-STYLE tags, then it works pretty well.
