Since my name has popped up a few times in this thread, I'll just 
briefly make my opinion known. (It has remained the same over the 
four-plus years I've operated the Online-News list.)

I would *strongly prefer* and I urge everyone who participates in this 
forum to identify themselves. Dan Dern makes a valid comment that context 
does count. Vin Crosbie likewise makes a valid point about why 
anonymity at times can be a good. While I might personally prefer that 
Xerxes/Scott sign his real name, I have no intention of setting any 
sort of list rules that would mandate that. That's his decision, and 
the consequences of it may be that some folks will "bozo filter" him 
because of that choice and ignore the quality of his discourse. There 
are strong arguments on both sides, and I think this is a decision left 
up to the individual, even if I disagree with "Xerxes'" choice.
