Good stuff Larry, thanks for bringing some humor to the conversation.  

Here's an observation.  Often Renee will say something to me and I'll have
the immediate reaction that she's belittling me, and then respond
accordingly.  Actually, for me,  "responding accordingly" is to withdraw. 
ASK HER WHAT SHE MEANS !

Usually it's not what I think.  The limitations of my previous beliefs are
challanged, and why not?  I have declared myself into
a life of growth and development, and facing unknowns is a part of that,
like putting my reactions aside in order to see what there is to learn.  

And what, do I really think my wife is out to belittle me? NO. NO. NO.
Although I do react that way sometimes. So find out what's really there.  I
picked her because she has keen observation and assessment.  She picked me
because she thought I was brilliant.  We still think that of one another. 
She wants to be heard.  I want to be trusted.  She wants me to provide.  I
want her to entertain me.  We both want to be honored.  Our marriage is a
renewable contract, the first phase was 5 years, now we're in a 10-year
agreement.  There's a finiteness to this I can get my arms around. 
"Forever" is a little vague.

We play and explore together well and joyously.  Our attentions are
different and complimentary, so we can cover a lot of ground.  I appreciate
her sorcery as she appreciates mine.  Life is good and unpredictable.
