These thoughts occurred to me this morning in the shower: Have local
media every partnered with ISP's, local or not? Why haven't they?

In the rush to build the biggest and baddest portals on the Internet, a
lot of people seemed to have ignored the fact that (home) Internet users
probably interact a great deal with their ISP's Web site -- many of
which were natural portals before Yahoo et. al. jumped into the game.

Questions that can't be answered elsewhere like, "How much time have I
spent online," "How do I change my password," and "How do I build my
first home page at this ISP" are frequently answered on these sites.
They've got a built-in audience.

Yet most local ISP's here in Montreal insist on creating their own
(often execrable) content rather than taking advantage of synergies
(bingo!) between their unique information and the brands of their local
papers (or other media).

Thoughts?

Julian
