I use cookies and have a link where members can do a search for their
password and if their is a match, the password is e-mailed to them.  I
rarely get requests for lost passwords.  There are a few people who are
clueless and still send me requests, but they are rare.  And once in awhile
somebody changes computers and e-mail addresses, in which case neither the
cookie nor the e-mail address lookup works, but again, this problem is rare.

More sites should use cookies to store passwords.  In my experience, users
don't mind if you fully explain what you're doing and why.
