I am particularly interested in providing the choice of "data' to any
consumer, and especially those with different ability levels...and thanks
to Vin's contributions to this list. Is it that the consumer should be in
control or the news giver?

Let us hope that:
1. Consumers will start hitting and staying on sites that are quicker and
more efficient, and complaining if not. That will result in the
quick/efficient sites being more popular and hopefully in turn get more
money from advertising, subscribers. That may take awhile as consumers
don't know if it's their modem, the site, the connection to the curb, etc.
that is causing the world wide wait.

(For example, in my work , we are trying
for Quality of Service among ISPs' - We see one webcast beautifully by
dialing up one ISP and then we do another dial-up and it looks like pixels
on steroids. The consumers don't have a clue why they are getting bad
reception and blame it on the website owner)

(Another issue, as you know is whether the internet connectivity and the
server allows the user to get the pages quickly, even if the graphics are
small.)

2. That we could showcase the Top Websites that are Friendly to the Blind,
etc, and those Top Websites (Large Media Entities who can afford to make
sure that the html coding works both ways) may feel embarrassed if they do
not comply with access....and we make sure they are showcased for their
lack of access.

There was a website that I found for some of my clients about a year ago,
that you type in a URL and it tells you how long it takes the page to load
on each speed of modem 14.4, 28.8, etc. and perhaps this might make a good
story for a reporter. Anyone remember that site? It also checked
compliance with all the browser types. It was a rude, but wonderful
awakening to some of my clients!

Best - Peggy
