I guess a few weeks ago, I asked the question about when News comes to
you. I cited Email I had recieved regarding allegations that wholesale
rapes occurred primarily against Chinese women in Indonesia during the
riots. Well based on reports in the SCMP and others, and statements
reported from the Indonesia government by the SCMP and others, that this
story is indeed real. Or at least real enough that Indonesia claims they
have established a fact finding committee regarding it.

Now admittedly I have not been following news as closely as normal these
last few weeks, but I still do not recall hearing or seeing anything about
this in the U.S. Press. And to a greater extent, not too much in Western
Press at all. Maybe I have missed it, but I don't think so. Why, would
such events not be given coverage? If something this attrocious occurred
why have the press not mentioned it? Secondly, why did the US Press
dismiss the riots out of hand and report the events in a fashion that
generally gave the reader the implication it was nothing more than some
peaceful student protests? When it is now, very obvious that nothing
could be further from the truth. And was very obvious at the time it was
far more than that if you read the reports from that region directly as
well.

I am very curious about the reasons that would have created such a
situation to occur. I think, events like this are just as bad as
invented, embelished or unsupported stories, probably worse. Why did this
happen?

You can't say, no one cares about Indonesia... this may be true, but the
press found it interesting enough to report the riots, so if there was
enough interest to report the riots, why was the reporting done so poorly?
And why has no effort that I have seen been made to correct the
reporting, and let the public know these riots were far more than some
relatively peaceful student protests?
