I just ran across this article and I thought it was worth posting to this
discussion group. It's about the numbers of new millionaires being created
through internet IPOs.

http://www.usatoday.com/life/cyber/zd/zd5.htm

The tie-in to online news is that I wonder if we won't be seeing news
coverage shaped by a get-very-rich-relatively-quickly mentality. I believe
it was the Wall Street Journal which had an article last week or the week
before about redefinitions of success in this society. There were doctors
and lawyers saying that they had been the smartest kids in their classes
and had thought they had picked good career paths, but now they're seeing
business school kids (whom the professionals had assumed weren't all that
bright) were zooming past them.

It's a bit like inner city kids aspiring to be sports stars because that's
where the big money is.

The article also pointed out the change in mentality from growing into your
wealth by age 50 versus making it in your twenties.

I know that the "greed is good" mentality of junk bonds seemed linked to
the Reagan years. And we've had the "Me Decade." of the 1970s. So will the
late nineties be the IPO decade? But, come to think of it, everyone is
saying that other than some of the internet stocks, tbe IPO market has not
been good lately.
