Kate:

I think you are right on...
"Hurt" is tied to identity: to "I",
a distinction in PEX.

I also think that "hurt"
is an emotional/ immediate response
to a disconnect in dialogue
Literally falling out of dialogue,
therefore relationship, with another
It hurts us, probably deeper then we
imagine, not to be in relationship
and, often this may happen not
because we seek this "hurt", but
do not recognize the relationship:
the dialogue that is available like a
possibility....we are "hurt" by a
sudden sense of no-possibility and
an abandonment in the limits of
our identity, which is shallow in
comparison to the dialogue, the
relationship we encounter.....

So, in the context of "community"
identity is the dialogue, which is
totally paradoxical to "I"...and
again the word "surrender" comes
up for me...surrendering to dialogue
And, I ask myself , "why surrender,
why not just accept or acquire?"
What is there in that question is
emptiness: nothing to accept,
nothing to acquire...possibly
something to admire...something
to be honest about that is admired,
however something that is "admired"
not at a distance, but as a sympatic
sense of one's own shared listening,
and I think I surrender myself to
this discovery of what I see and hear
as being who I am, that is when I
even approach what is only vaguely
beginning to be what a dialogue is...

The funny thing is it "hurts" always
like an underlying complaint
and once in a while it doesn't
