I can only speak about this from the side of television reviews, but you
should definately NOT just take the images. Here's a couple of reasons:

1)You can't just assume that they're using the official P.R. photo or
image. A worse case scenerio is that the site you've gotten from didn't
have permission to use it either. Or the image they're using is being used
in some certain context, and only permission for that use has been given.
In some cases, networks will allow me to use images in a review, but
wouldn't let me just keep them around so visitors could download the image.

2)Even if the use does fall into the "fair-use" category, if you get
caught, you'll have trouble getting legitimate photos in the future. Many
of the network and corporate sites are using invisible watermarks, that
they use to keep track of where the image originated from. The copyright
holder may only send you a letter if they see an image on your site that
they obect to...but they'll also have no motivation to help you in the
future.

3)I wouldn't expect the sites to be much help. There's certainly no
motivation for them to help another site which might be a competitor. But
you should be able to get much of what you need from the studio, record
company, etc. It's a lot of legwork, but not only is it the right thing to
do, it will open up lines of communications with the publicists, which
should allow you to get the things sooner than if you waited for them to
just appear on some site.
