Apologies if I am late to respond on this and somebody already did so.
Apparently - WebTV got so much usage - their servers went down over the
holidays, according to some news reports.  Also - they sold out in some
places of their box for the holidays.  Erol's in located in Washington, DC,
runs extensive media (TV and Radio and Newspaper) here.
