JavaScript can talk to CGIs, and can save them some effort on the
server side vis a vis form fill validation amongst other things.
With most of the common uses of CGI currently out there, one couldn't
replace CGIs with JavaScript. It's probably a good idea to pick up
one of the basic JavaScript handbook-type things out there and scan
the first few chapters to get an idea of its background and what it can do,
and of course to browse a few of the sites by looking up JavaScript
on AltaVista.
