Yeah! In addition to the technical issues (if you had site
congestion, was it due to the bandwidth, the server or both?), I'm
curious as to whether people were logging in just to grab the latest
numbers or if they were also reading any articles posted along with
the results.

I ran a small results server, uploading results from a newsroom to a
server via a dial-up SLIP account at 14.4K. Worked fine,
no server/bandwidth problems that I could tell (but then, we only
advertised it by "word of 'Net") except that midway through, my
graphics program decided it was tired of me coloring in states and
so only pretended to save my map when I clicked on "Save" - which
meant I was uploading the same map for a couple of hours. Important
lesson learned: Always look at your stuff right after you post it
to make sure it's OK (yes, it's something I should've learned a
long time ago).

One interesting phenomenon: Several hours before the polls closed, I
started getting E-mail from people wondering (in some cases
demanding to know, really) why I wasn't posting exit-poll numbers. "I
can watch TV after the polls close; I want to know who's winning now"
one guy wrote). As it turns out, some guy *was* posting exit-poll
numbers (see http://www.startribune.com for a story on that). What
are the implications of this?
