The Florida Department of State Division of elections got
overload from people wanting election results... It was almost like
trying to get into the National Hurricane Center with an approaching storm.

We updated our local tallies nine times last night and had the
finals online two hours before the paper went to press. We had people
calling wanting to know why it wasn't online.

People have high expectations from online newspapers. We are on
the cutting edge. I personally detest exit polls. How can you expect the
exit voter to tell the truth... in fact... how can you expect any poll
recipient to tell the truth. I certainly wouldn't because it's nobody's
business how I vote... which begs the question... why use them? what
purpose does it serve? At best it is an educated guess. We do enough
educated guess reporting as it is.

We have our niche and TV has its own... why should we try to be
something we can;t be... We can't be TV... we should do what we do
best... report the facts as quickly as we can.
