I did a Wais search on DowVision (http://dowvision.wais.net) it was part
of a current market survey.  It was 10 million back in December.

Actually, AOL users can FTP download everything they need to hook up
through local boards.  They can get trumpet (4 minutes), netscape for
windows, and a list of bbs connections from alt.bbs.internet

The best source is to see how many connections come into the popular web 
servers.  Some of the web servers are not packing user identification 
information.  Thanks to TIA, Pink-Slip, and Fire-Walls, one host can be
several hundred hosts.  The new Netscape servers are also keeping more 
detailed statistics.
