There are several ways to block the feed.  One is to provide a protected
server for NNTP.  Another is to block NNTP connects at the POP router.
Another is to only provide restricted shell accounts which can only read
from the protected server.  Another is to put NNTP filtering to purge the 
newsgroups.

Some boards require supplimentary authentication to use the X rated groups.

The down side is that to protect the child, you must disable telnet,
web, ftp, and other TCP/IP direct capabilities.  A good reccomendation
would be to assign "X Rated" hosts to a specific set of subaddresses
so that they could be masked on or off.

Both also do not provide full internet capability (Web, Telnet, Gopher,...)
You also wouldn't want your 10 year old to drive the family car through
new york city either.  That's why we let them ride Bicycles.
