It sounds like the Post Office is looking at doing something that would
be really useful. No wonder they are the only branch of the Federal
Governement to "Turn a Profit".
This approach would elmininate some of the biggest concerns, like
competitors locking each other out of the market with proprietary schemes
(Netscape, MSN, Spry/Checkfree, Prodigy,...) I just want to mail a check
not develop intimate life-time relationships with 7 different companies.
My car uses unleaded gas. I hope they don't stop selling it or start
selling something that damages my engine as a mandatory replacement.
(Like 50% MTBE :-).
A week after I shell out $100 for a TCP/IP package with Mosaic, I hit a
server that won't talk to me unless I have Netscape. When I go to
download Netscape, they want an extra $35 bucks. They guys who wroted
Mosaic wrote Netscape, thanks for Nothin'. (Imagine this conversation
from a guy from Brooklyn, as I'm telling him how great the WEB is.
