Will it be media compatible with anything else, or another incredible Woz
Machine?

Why can't they just bless MPEG and let the market run (MPEG lets you put
a 2 hour movie on a 5 1/4 inch CD-ROM). Adult movies have been using it
for about a year now, and there are some mainstream titles starting to
come out.

Several are converting their cable feeds to FDDI or ethernet. The 10
Mb/sec is enough to support about 5 MPEG channels. (Yet another feature
of GPL, provide by the Internet)
