I remember reading that they had "mellowed out", but that they were 
bragging at how they got $700,000 in fees from that one spam.

There are several lawyers who solicit clients out of specific groups.  
Copyright lawyers hit groups where copyright questions are being asked, 
Immagration lawyers it groups where immigration issues are being discussed.
