There are several sources of personals. The Village Voice offers a
modest selection. The jumbo version is the alt.personals.* groups. Here,
the posters give a short text-only description and a URL to their
home-pages. The internet access providers charge a set-up fee for the
home page, and a monthly storage fee. Most of the URLs have pictures and
general information. The newsgroups provide a place to share the more
"private stuff" (an oxymoron right?). We will probably see more of this
now that it is possible to permission each page.

What's really fun is to see the difference in web pages between
misc.jobs.offered and alt.personals.bondage :-).

There is a good potential market for a company like "Glamour Shots" to
pick up an extra bit of change by providing a GIF or JPEG on a floppy or
a "Home Page" kept at their server.

WAIS, and several WAIS servers keep wais indexed archives which is a good
way to sort through the 5000 "Single Professional Males ISO SWF" for
the "SWF ISO SWM". The shorthand is still used, but more to be
comfortable talking about touchy subjects. :-)
