Most of the editor workstations run either Ultrix or OSF/1 on Mips or
Alphas (At prior was mostly Sun SparcStations) There is too much
happening at the same time to wait for the Microsoft Hourglass to go
away between prompts. On-line publishing is a real-time business.

Mostly VMS for storage oriented services. Mostly UNIX for communications,
user interface, and distribution oriented services.

There are 3 mail servers. Only the SMTP server accesses the internet.

We maintian feeds, servers, remote servers (corporate customers), and Web.

We store the docs in SGML using WYSIWYG editors. Display generators are
automatic from there.

No

Yes

Both

Yes

No, some developed here. Some purchased, some joint venture.

Yes

Adding the WEB server is easy. Building the content is the tricky part.
A WEB site should have news available as soon as possible. Deadlines are
hourly. You want to be the newest version because your listing will be
viewed first if it is relevant.
