SMTP is simple mail transfer protocol.  You appearently have it, it's 
e-mail.

NNTP comes in two flavors.  rn and xnews are interactive NNTP 
interfaces.  You can also use an NNTP client to down-load all news-groups 
in which you have interest.  You can set up corporate SMTP and NNTP 
servers using Unix (Linix, AIX, Solaris...), WindowsNT, or OS/2 (in that 
order of preference).
