NEWS MEDIA ADVISORY

The Census Bureau will demonstrate its Internet online information site 
for reporters at the Census Bureau Headquarters Building in Suitland, 
Maryland on Friday, March 16 at 10 a.m. in the auditorium. Reporters will 
now be able to access news releases, tipsheets, and other statistics and 
information from the Census Bureau via Internet. 

At your Internet prompt, type:

gopher gopher.census.gov

to access the text-based system. If you have a system that is compatible 
with Windows, try the graphics and text-based system known as Mosaic by 
typing:

mosaic www.census.gov

In addition to news information and statistics, the site carries other 
information about the organization, policies, and statistical programs of 
the Census Bureau. For example, you will currently find:

	--government finances data
	--research papers from the Center for Economic Studies
	--statistical software from the International Statistical 
		Programs Center
	--new product advisories from Data User Services
	--Statistical Briefs
	--The "We the American" series from the 1990 census
	--Software to extract data from the Survey of Income and Program 
		Participation and the Current Population Survey
	--pointers to other Internet sites carrying census data.
