Shameless, but Still Cool
+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+

Is it dignified to mention that HotWired's been nominated for "Still
Cool Site of the Year"? No. Is it a breach of etiquette to ask for your
vote? Maybe. Will we ask anyway? You bet.

This Week's Guests in Club Wired:

Rick Maechling, one of the scientists at Stanford who analyzed the
meteorite from Mars, will be joining us in Wired Arena on Tuesday. It's
your chance to hear exactly what they found and to decide for yourself
what the chances of an invasion are.

Another first in Wednesday's WiredSide Chat: Live from the Democratic
National Convention, John Heilemann will take a break from the ballyhoo
to answer your questions and chat about the antics and events happening
at the four-day party for the Prez.

Later on Wednesday, Simson Garfinkel, technology columnist for Packet,
will join host Janelle Brown in PacketChat to talk cable modems: Sure,
they're fast, but are they secure?

Can Web activism really free Tibet or is it simply preaching to the
already converted? Find out with Andrew Leonard, Packet's technoculture
columnist, and Janelle Brown in Thursday's PacketChat.

Thursday in Electronic Frontiers: Marilyn Davis developed eVote -
software that enables the members of an email list to poll themselves
while emulating the decision-making processes used by face-to-face
groups. She joins host Jon Lebkowsky to discuss how the beta test is
going with the Internet Action Group, which is using eVote to organize
cyber rights demonstrations.

Check the Club Wired schedule for detailed descriptions of these and
other events.

Forget Your Password?
+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+

We know, we know. You have 18 slightly different usernames and
passwords, and you just can't keep track. Don't let an eight-digit
password keep you from posting to Threads. If you've forgotten yours,
all you have to do is (1) reply to this message; (2) change the subject
line to read PASSWORD (that's important); and (3) write us a
one-sentence note with your name, email address, and membername (if you
remember it). It's that easy.
