Just to clarify: We're talking about two different lists.

http://www.newslink.org/hot.html is the Top 10 list I mentioned.
It's done with some serious methodology, and we haven't released
runnerup data from it. (I can say, however, that if current trends
hold, the Chicago Tribune will probably break into the Top 10 on that
list next month. Its totals have been growing monthly while some
others above it have had declining totals.)

The other poll, at http://www.newslink.org/vote.html, is a longer
list of 25 sites, done some time ago as nothing more than a fun "pop
poll." That's the list Jeff mentions. We did report several
runnersup for that list, and American Reporter was among them.
However, this poll was a poll conducted Richard J. Daley style:
whoever shows up gets to vote as many times as he or she wants.
Well, not completely so. We did put some checks on it. But they are
nowhere near as elaborate as the checks we put on the Top 10 list.

We probably will do another "Best of..." pop poll sometime in the
near future. But personally, I put a lot more faith in the
methodologically superior Top 10 list whose results I reported here.
