The Chicago Tribune digital publishing group is expanding.
Digital City/Virtual Communities producer: Responsible for locating,
then acquiring and editing, the content that will form the basis of
several of the Tribune's suburban Digital City/Virtual Community
sites, then packaging and producing this content for presentation on
the World Wide Web and affiliated information providers. Must possess
a working knowledge of the Internet, the World Wide Web, America
Online, and basic electronic publishing tools; and basic editing
skills. Familiarity with Hypertext Markup Language and of programs
such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Director; knowledge of a wide
variety of possible sources of information; and the ability to work
productively under intense deadline pressure are prerequisites. This
position may include night, weekend, and holiday work.
Internet Reporter: Writes original articles to be published on the
World Wide Web as a central portion of the Tribune's Digital City
Chicago/Virtual Communities project. Also gathers information from a
wide variety of community sources to establish the baseline content of
an individual Digital City site. In addition to the normal reporter's
skills, the Internet Reporter must be able to use a wide variety of
hardware and software tools to create packages of information for the
Web, including but not limited to archival material, hyperlinks to
supplementary sources, and non-textual content. This job requires
night and weekend work, and may be based in a Tribune bureau.
Editing Assistant: Gathers, edits, and inputs content for the
Tribune's Digital City/Virtual Communities project, then codes it in
Hypertext Markup Language for posting on the World Wide Web. The job's
focus is on accurate, comprehensive listings and comprehensive
compilations of service material from information sources throughout
the suburbs, with a short-term emphasis on building baseline content
in specific communities. Responsibilities also will include
developing methods and formats for inputting specialized copy, and
coordinating the flow of information to the Tribune's Web servers.
This job includes night and weekend work and may be based in a Tribune
bureau.
