He is certainly worth reading, and often goes against the flow of the
conventional wisdom in publishing. 

Jack had another article in last month's Boardwatch about the "myth"
that large ISPs and telcos will "take over" the internet access
business, driving small ISPs from the field. In this article he
addressed axpanding bandwidth and costs.

Rickard said that switching technology is advancing so quickly that
bandwidth will outstrip demand shortly. Two TERRABIT switches have been
demonstrated already, using separate channels of light to achieve
incredible throughput. Currently there are 18 internet "backbones" in
operation, with more scheduled. 

The so-clled bandwidth problem is actually a processing problem,
according to Rickard. DNS servers and other routing computers are too
few and too slow to meet demand. 

His prediction: more bandwidth at cheaper prices. Soon.
