Hi Chris,

I can only answer for what my readers said to me in an informal poll I 
took (about a hundred responses).  About 70 would not read over 500 
words.  They actually preferred 350.  Most of my readers were under 30 
and made movies for a living.  Perhaps writers (screenwriters in my neck 
of the internet) will read longer articles, mainly because they're 
online longer and more often (procrastinating, if you ask me <g>).

What about you?  Which do you prefer?  Articles over 500 words or 
shorter bursts of information accessible with hyper links?

What I would suggest is a document in three sections:

Section One:  Headlines (with hyperlinks to both a summary of the 
article and an in depth version of the article)

Section Two: Summary of the article (Under a hundred words) with a hyper 
link to the in depth version.

Section Three: In depth version of all the articles (over 500 words)

I think you maximize your audience and you're doing something the print 
versions of the News don't do.
