Much of this discussion has centered on the limits of plain-text documents,
such as Joe Shea's American Reporter, delivered as email.

It's worth noting that HTML documents (sans image files) can be delivered as
email attachments, even with existing email technology. The reader loads it
into a Web browser using the "Load File" command and then can rapidly
navigate around it using internal hyperlinks.

My paper, the Anchorage Daily News, has had an email edition -- usu.
80K-120K per day of plain text -- for about a year. We've developed an HTML
version of the same content and are just now offering it for sale.
Admittedly, it's still all-text, but it is text that looks nicer and is 10
times easier to navigate.
