Please don't take this personally, but that  contract abuses writers. I've
never sold all print rights away-- and would refuse to work for anyone who
insisted. That's standard practice promoted by the American Society of
Journalists and Authors. Perhaps most of the stringers who sign your contract
are inexperienced and are just glad to be in print. That's unfortunate.
However, I think newspapers/online services are going to have to give this
issue deeper thought because most sites will never be profitable without
 ideas and work provided by people out of the newsroom. Freelancers are
already critical to weekly print supplements. If anyone from the ASJA's
watchdog committee subscribes to this list, you'll soon see what I mean.
