We have more on the Tupac Shakur shooting, including the latest on his =
death and photos of the crowd outside the hospital. Because we are a =
p.m. newspaper in a JOA that doesn't publish on weekends, our newsroom =
was empty at 4 p.m. today when word arrived that Shakur had died. As a =
result, our online staff grabbed the digital camera to take photos and =
started making calls to create a story.

We have since called in a reporter and photographer to provide more =
coverage. Love to hear comments on how other newspapers have dealt with =
breaking news that happens off cycle, when the print-side reporters and =
photographers aren't around. This is especially true at smaller =
newspapers -- we're a 40,000 circulation daily.
