DIGITAL CITY ARLINGTON HEIGHTS DEBUTS TODAY
Digital City Arlington Heights, an online version of the northwest
suburb and the first Chicagoland "virtual community" being developed
and implemented by the Chicago Tribune, launches today on the
Internet's World Wide Web at
http://chicago.digitalcity.com/arlingtonheights.
Digital City Arlington Heights is a comprehensive news and
information site, providing a wide array of information for residents
and those interested in this village, including:
* Chicago Tribune news coverage and classified ads from Arlington
Heights and nearby suburbs, including stories written
specifically for Digital City Arlington Heights.
* General information about Arlington Heights, including
government, civic and emergency information.
* "Where to turn," an area that answers commonly asked
questions about the community and where to turn for help.
* Compilations of information about Arlington Heights,
including schools, parks and
religious institutions.
-MORE-
DIGITAL CITY ARLINGTON HEIGHTS/2
* Searchable listings of restaurants, movies and other
Arlington Heights social activities.
"Digital City Arlington Heights provides a one-stop virtual
community including everything from local high school sports scores to
the latest information about town activities," said Owen Youngman,
director of interactive media for the Chicago Tribune. "It also
provides a place for community organizations to post information about
what they're doing.
"Digital City Arlington Heights will continue to evolve," Youngman
continued.
"We expect a wide variety of content providers to join the site to
provide more information in the future and that members of the
community will contribute information of their own."
Digital City Arlington Heights is supported by an agreement between
the Chicago Tribune's Digital City Chicago project and the North
Suburban Library System that will help communities maintain current
and updated local information through NorthStarNet, the library
system's Internet service.
Digital City Arlington Heights is the Chicago Tribune's first
digital community-based news and information service. It is part of
Digital City Chicago, a new service that in the coming months will
appear on both the World Wide Web and America Online. Digital
communities will be launched throughout the Chicagoland area in 1996
and 1997.
