We are posting two positions with Star Tribune Online. Here is the
first.
The job description follows. This is a Newspaper Guild job; the scale
is $526 to $990 depending on qualifications.

Job Description: Graphics Artist (Online Services Department)


The Online Services Department has an opening for a graphics artist to
work on Star Tribune Online and related services on the Internet's World
Wide Web. This person will be responsible for the creation of graphics
for the online service(s) and will assist in design of new sections and
pages for the online service(s). The person also will work on a daily
basis with the online news editors and producers to integrate visual
storytelling with text material.

The person will report to Steve Yelvington, editor/manager of Star
Tribune Online, and to Jamie Hutt, the graphics editor of Star Tribune
Online. He or she will also maintain working relationships with
originating
editors and teams in various parts of the Star Tribune newsroom. The
person will fill in as the graphics editor in the absence of Jamie.

Qualifications: A strong understanding of computer graphics, file
formats, and compression techniques are essential, as is photo editing
experience and familiarity with the Internet and World Wide Web. The
designer should be fluent in Photoshop: familiarity with Freehand and
Director is preferred. A basic knowledge of HTML programming is highly
desirable. Sound news experience, flexibility, problem-solving skills
and
excellent communication skills also are necessary. A year's experience
in creating graphics, pages and/or templates for the World Wide Web, or
equivalent experience, is desirable.

This is a Guild A-Scale position. The hours are to be arranged, but are
likely to be a combination of afternoon and evening hours. Some
weekend work is possible.
