Although a recent online survey showed two-thirds of online
and Internet service users wish there were laws to prohibit junk
email and chain letters, for Cyber Promotions, the leading bulk
emailer, business is booming.

By the end of this year, they project earnings of about $1
million, a considerable increase from the $30,000 in 1964, their
first year

But growth has been an expense for CyberPromo, who has already
begun putting in their own network to get connected to the Internet.
Partly because ServInt, their last supporting ISP, had to ask them
to leave because ServInt's access provider (CAIS, Inc.) implemented
a no-spam policy, CyberPromo has spent $60,000 installing the new
machines, including converting from Apple Macintoshes to UNIX platforms.
The four servers, in Pennsylvania and an unnamed location in Virginia,
are connected to each other in an Ethernet LAN, and are hooked to the
net through T1 lines to a company they won't name. They intend to spend
$150,000 to $200,000 to convert to T3 lines and expand the network to
20-30 servers.
