Well let's see...

Nonprofit isn't dispositive, I believe.

Diff. than a xerox machine......  In the real world, anything copied to
this listserv is very likely to be reproduced by subscribers to other
lists, newsgroups, etc. and may eventually be mass-impressed to some
CD-ROM of "Usenet articles between 1995 and xxxx." Some events of copying
in this chain may thus lead to profit copying. Would the Times object to
that? 

How do copyright holders feel about everyone on the Net making judgments 
on their own as to whether the copyright holder objects to a certain 
copying act or forum? Is it sufficient to presume that no one cares 
because we haven't, on our own, found a reason for "them" to care?
