How the Web Was Won

According to David H. Rothman:

David, I admire your implacably optimistic spirit! But . . . since
when did members of l'Ancien Regime ever wake up in time?

Hopefully we here can catch the new wave. Messrs Schreibman, Rothman,
and Loundy have contributed excellent posts. Now, are we all ready to
support One of Our Own? I speak of Joe Shea and AR. I know what you
are all going to say: thin, left-wing, opinionated, . . . whatever
(IMHO it is a paper that I.F.Stone would have loved -- YMMV). _But_
Joe is Actually Doing It. With no money, very little organization,
just a loyal band of people who share his vision. Are you all helping
him(I'm going to send in my renewal in the mail tomorrow)? And I
bet what he'd appreciate more than the moolah is a few contributions
of articles about your special expertize. He may fall flat on his
face, this year, or next. He may also survive and prosper, and make
you wiggle with embarrassment that you could have helped in the early
days. Joe has just boasted that he has received an accolade from
Wired Magazine. Let's try and accelerate the arrival of the day when
the poor pathetic WashPost will brag about the Best Print Media
Award they just got from AR.

Best wishes from Your Favorite Non-Journalist!
