How the Web Was Won

Not directed at you, Rick, but as this was the last post in the string...

I was reminded of my little poster I'd set up when I started doing The Wilt
Letter.

I'd created, with others, a "bold statement" and some "principles of
accountability" by which to run the effort, one of which was: "...To honor
all that is, was and will be."

On several instances when I've had a raucous good time lambasting someone
or -thing, or maybe its flaying with phrases, being right about what's
wrong, I've glanced almost guiltily at my accountability
motto/phrase/whatever, heaved a sigh, and then rewritten the piece.

I can't recall a time when the rewrite wasn't a better piece, standing in a
place of "honoring all that is, was and will be." Doesn't mean I had to
like what I was writing about. But the tone certainly shifted to something
more like a contribution to a conversation, rather'n a rant (fun though
they are, I do confess). And invariably I was drawn to inquire into what
was really behind my "opinion" of the moment, to be a little more
thoughtful, a little more precise (if not accurate), which itself led to
some interesting insights, which were beneficial to the editorial effort.
