Anybody who reads this list can "vote" with their "feet", keyboards, and/or
wallets.  Strikes me as quite a bit of control.  

The same is true of OUR readers.  

And, actually, our employees.

I have trouble envisioning a mechanism under which any other "stakeholders"
would, in practice, exert any reasonable degree of influence.

We can.  But *I* actually expect very similar outcomes.

No we don't.  In fact, we disagree about it.

I've had some of my most interesting discussions in restaurants.  I think
the restaurant owners were trying to make money, but that didn't diminish
much from the discussion, unless the rest of their customers liked loud music.

I've had others in offices, and rented apartments.  I think their landlords
were out to make money too.

 That's not pushing things very far from where we
