I've always like the way clients' eyes glazed over when I told them
they should host on their own servers any advertising content and
any collateral content, forbidding any links off their servers in
both advertising and editorial, and inserting back links to their
editorial content into all pages.

So far as I know, nobody ever implemented that recommendation. Too 
enamoured of hot lists, I suppose.
