ARIZONA CENTRAL TO PROVIDE LIVE ELECTION RESULTS FOR NEARLY 300 RACES

(PHOENIX -- Nov. 1, 1996) - Arizona Central, the premiere online source for
information about the Grand Canyon State, on Tuesday evening will be
posting up-to-the-minute election results for nearly 300 races.

Additionally, users will be able to launch special race-by-race
"scoreboard" windows that automatically update themselves with new results.
These special Web pages can be left running on a user's computer while he
or she explores other parts of Arizona Central.

Arizona Central is the online services from Phoenix Newspapers Inc.,
publishers of "The Arizona Republic," "The Phoenix Gazette" and the
"Arizona Business Gazette."

The election-results service is just part of ongoing coverage the 1996
vote. Visitors to Arizona Central will also find stories covering national
and local races, a guide to Phoenix-area elections, the Elect To Connect
educational area for students and teachers, and a message board where
visitors can post their thoughts on the campaigns.

On Tuesday evening, as the election numbers start to arrive, Arizona
Central will compile results for races as prominent President and as local
as Daisy Mountain Fire District board member. Results will be available on
all 60 state legislative races, as well nearly 70 school-board votes.
Coverage will also include results from the Arizona Kids Voting mock
election, which teaches schoolchildren about the democratic process.

The scoreboard feature will be available to visitors running recent
versions of Web browsers - Netscape 2.0 or higher, or Microsoft Internet
Explorer 3.0 or higher. A special test page will let users know whether
their browser is compatible. Users of other browsers will be able to see
the results on standard Web pages.

Arizona Central's Election '96 area can be reached by going to the site's
home page -- http://www.azcentral.com -- then clicking on the election
logo at the top of the page. Election night results are expected to arrive
around 8 p.m. Arizona time.

Arizona Central, launched in the Fall 1995, is actually available in two
"editions" - one on the Web (http://www.azcentral.com) and one on America
Online (keyword arizona). Both editions carry news and information on the
Grand Canyon State, including:

* Destinations, covering Arizona travel, lodging and more
* An searchable directory of more than 250 state golf courses
* Arizona State University football coverage
* A guide to dining in the Phoenix area
