David and Jeremy are polemicizing about UNIX/freedom/cooperation vs.
Windows/corporations/databases.  I wouldn't presume to interfere with such a
well-loved sport, but I'd like to encourage discussion on a tangential issue
they raised.

To what extent will technical trends in information presentation
(text/graphics/sound/video) turn out to be consistent with trends in
networked transactions?  By transactions I don't just mean electronic money,
but also business information of the sort normally handled via database
management systems (DBMS) and maybe TP monitors.  

I have some thoughts on the subject, but they're ill-formed, so I'll start
by throwing this out here.
