Pardon is this is off-topic here, but we have a bit of an internal
disagreement about the best internet server platform for a planned, quite
robust, multimedia on-line edition of The Christian Science Monitor.

Some within our ranks think that a stout UNIX-based server is
best-suited to publishing on the WWW. They acknowlege that the server
itself, and the personnel needed to administer it, are more costly than
with other platforms. But, they say, it's still the best.

Others insist that Windows NT is the way to go, offering ease of use and
a significant amount of development underway likely to make it as widely
versatile as current UNIX systems. And at lower cost.

Still others wish to use the new line of MAC servers, also arguing
ease-of-use, much lower cost, and compatibility with publishing systems
already in place here and at lots of other newspapers. They argue that
AppleScript is as useful for CGI scripting as PERL or C or other
languages used for this purpose.

You know the arguments. Actual experience and gloves-off advice eagerly
sought here, on this list if it's appropriate or via personal e-mail.

Thanks very much.
