I can get into Nando or Wired a lot easier than I can download an oversize 
E-mail file. And Nando or Wired's hit rate is going to be a lot higher, in 
all likelihood, than yours ever would be.

SLIP/PPP POPs and the cheapie Chameleon and Eudora mail readers are much 
less forgiving. Have someone send you an encoded copy of TimesFax and see 
how well your machine copes with it!
