We too are working on an email product, and have the following observations:
--Email, plain as it is, can reach the largest number of 'readers'.  No 
file conversions, no additional app's needed. Simple.
--And simple does have the restrictions of no images, etc.  There are 
better solutions for that: ie: Adobe, WWW etc. etc.
--Sending by Email lets US control who gets our material which also means 
we can control/charge for what we send out.
--Email is suitable for niche solutions.  A buiness briefs product for 
local businesses, an entertainment product for college students in our 
circulation area (who are amoung the most difficult to sell the print 
product to), an outdoors product for wider distribution.
