Report #4 from Tom Vassos and Jacqueline Fortin
WARNING: Long Append

First of all, we would like to thank the 50+ people from several
countries on 3 different continents that personally sent us a
note to thank us for providing these trip reports.

It feels great to be appreciated!

Anyway, tonight we had the Birds of a Feather session and had
a great turnout. It looked like we had about 50 or 60
people show up! Most of the participants were from INET, several
were from MARKET-L, and a few were from the Online-News forum.
A quick survey of the crowd revealed that most were from the
U.S., 2 were from Canada (Jacqueline and myself), 1 from
Japan, 1 from the UK, and one from Denmark.

We had everyone introduce themselves and tell us what their claim
to fame is on the Net. So that those of you at home would not
miss out, I also passed my ThinkPad around from person to person
and asked everyone to sign in, along with a few words about their
background, claim to fame, etc. Below you will
find their words of wisdom....so enjoy!

After the introductions we got into some lively (and sometimes
religious) discussions about several topics including the size
and growth of the market, the use and validity of interactivity
in Web sites, the purpose of forums such as INET (i.e. can we play
a role in shaping the direction of this market), the viability of
the Internet vs traditional mechanisms such as telephones, answering
machines, faxback services, etc.

Unfortunately, I was so involved in the discussions that I didn't
take very good notes so I guess you had to be there. :-)
Following this session about 15 of us went out for dinner. A lot
was actually accomplished at dinner and I will summarize what was
decided and post to the group in the next day or two (I was going
to do this tonight but it's almost 3am and I have to wake up
in a couple of hours to go back to the conference.) (ps. to
dinner attendees: see bottom of this note for the solution to
my magic trick....)

What a dynamic group!

(Magic note to dinner attendees only: (also known as: how
to have fun with your friend from SUN) Ask 1st question
but write Denmark/Elephant on first piece of paper. Ask
2nd question, but write 1st answer on 2nd piece of paper.
Ask 3rd question. math always works out to 4 (or D),
Denmark is one of few countries that starts with a D,
Elephant is one of the only animals that starts with an E.
Write 2nd answer on 3rd piece of paper....totally confused?
don't worry, so am I.)

Tom Vassos Jacqueline Fortin
