There are many ways to defend yourself. I have seen a woman in a very
short miniskirt walk through a crowd of gang members, and keep them so
intimidated that they didn't even speak. There are ways to communicate
such that you create safe space - - without pulling a Colt 45 out of your
bag.

Quite true. The most dangerous combination is to have a drunk man and a
visible gun. Suddenly a simple argument gets very dangerous.

Actually, a good course in feminine self defense is more effective.
Knowing that you can cripple a guy and run and not have to worry about a
lawsuit from the deceased punk's family can give a great deal of confidence.

It depends on where you live, who you associate with, and how you manage
your interactions with different people. A woman who owns and displays a
gun may be more likely to get shot by a drunken or intoxicated boyfriend
than by a thug from the back alleys, because her boyfriend knows it's there.

Actually, if you live near Red-Feather Colorado where there are a lot of
drunken men with shotguns in their back window, it is a good idea to have
a shotgun nearby. Personally, I avoid red feather - especially in short
skirts.
There are men who believe that you have to fight to be a man. If you
associate too closely with that type, you may find that his violence and
anger will soon be directed toward you. With that kind of man,
especially if he likes to drink, fight, and have sex which only satisfies
him, it's a real good idea to keep a gun - under your pillow if you sleep
with him. A man like that attracts interesting friends, and more
interesting enemies. For that matter, so do drug pushers, police
officers, soldiers, athletes, and other "Real Men". Nothing wrong with a
cute hunk, but keep him defanged, keep the gun in your hand when he's not
tied up :-).

It sounds to me like you have taken a fire-arm safety course. This is
good - at least you won't accidentally shoot your own kids. Have they
taken the course too? Of course, by now, every male over the age of 10
knows that you have a gun in your house. Guess who they will want to
visit when your not home, or are asleep in your bed. Now THEY have the
gun, YOU have a problem. If they happen to blow away some 7-11 clerk
with your weapon (Registered?), you may have some explaining to do.
Even in tombstone arizona, where every man had a side-arm, and every
woman had a daranger under her skirts, you had to worry about the man who
was faster, or the one who would get behind you and shoot you as soon as
you turned around. Back-shooters were low-life, so they would wait for
you to turn around. Today's Crips and Bloods, don't really care what
people think of a back-shooter.

Interesting opinion. I enjoyed reading it and responding to it.
