I guess I really need to learn about TCP/IP stacks myself..... all the
women I exchange e-mail with have boyfriends...... but I wouldn't know an
online chat room if it hit me in the face. I don't know if photos tagging
along on e-mail will be a + or - in the cyberfuture. (I have been
imagining online personals with photos though as part of a newspaper
classified service, but it might be a negative as imagination/fantasy might
be better than reality.)
OTOH, you and Rex both make good arguments. I guess the thought that
intrigues me lately is are the more likely users of online information
services, even with a local focus, more or less likely to be users of more
advanced equipment. If they're more likely, than it doesn't make a lot of
sense trying to be backward compatible if those people aren't likely to be
users of your service anyway. Of course, I don't have an answer.
If you don't want to be ISPs, maybe it's worth calling Infinet. I was
impressed at least with the post explaining their system.
This week's Broadcasting & Cable magazine mentioned Infinet's being
sanctioned by CBS, as mentioned in a recent post on online-news.
Interestingly, it said the cost to have an Infinet homepage system was
$5K, $10K, or $15K, depending on the elaborateness of it. The Landmark
Las Vegas tv station represents the $15K model. The article didn't list
the URL though.
