Margie Wylie posted a description to this list on 04/25 about her
experience with the OK bombing coverage. She said she heard about it
first on the BBS World News and THEN logged on to the Internet (after
calling her parents because she is an Oklahoma native). Her observation:
online pubs aren't breaking stories yet, but hopefully will someday.

It strikes me that transmission of "bulletin" material is going to be the
province of "broadcasting" for a long time to come. This is because there
is no limit to the number of people who can listen to a news broadcast
(assuming they are in reach of the signal). Web sites get jammed when
there is unprecedented traffic.

Also, most people are not full-time web surfers -- they are not online 24
hours a day waiting for "bulletins." They would have to come in by E-mail
at present. Most of us are far more likely, therefore, to hear first word
of a major news event via a broadcast outline -- or a telephone call from
a friend.
